Agencies quote $25k+ for a headless Shopify build — you can get the same architecture for a fraction. Decouple your storefront with Next.js and the Storefront API for sub-second speed and total design freedom: a working preview before you pay, fixed prices from $229, and clean code you own with no agency lock-in. Also on WordPress? Our custom WordPress development team builds headless to the same standards.

Typical Shopify Plus & headless projects start from $700 — a fixed, all-in quote after a free scoping call. The prices above are per individual deliverable.
Why is a senior custom build this affordable? Because you are not paying for a middle layer.
🏢No agency overheadYou work with the developer who writes your code — not an account manager, a sales team and three markups stacked on top.
🌐Senior team, direct ratesA senior team billing at real engineering rates — not $150/hr Western agency time. Same code quality, a fraction of the price.
📋Fixed scope, no wasteA price per deliverable agreed up front — no padded timesheets, no scope-creep invoices. You pay for the build, nothing else.
Team vs Freelancer
Why a senior team beats a cheap freelancer
Same budget range — very different risk. Here is what changes when a full team owns your project instead of one person juggling ten clients.
A solo freelancer
×They go quiet. The #1 complaint — overcommitted freelancers fall behind, then disappear mid-build or months after launch.
×Single point of failure. One person gets sick, busy or takes another gig — and your project just stops. No backup.
×No process. No staging, no backups before changes, no QA or code review — bugs ship straight to your live site.
×No handover. Rarely any documentation, so the next developer has to reverse-engineer everything.
×Cheap upfront, costly later. Messy code means the next dev charges double — a $3k site can cost $8k to rescue.
×Access left open. They keep admin keys to your hosting, domain and CMS long after — and after they vanish.

Before We Start
How to prepare for your headless build
Headless pays off when the fit is right. A little prep tells us whether it is — and shapes the architecture.
✓
Design system or Figma
Your components and design tokens — headless rewards a real design system.
✓
Catalogue & content model
Product structure, metafields and what content lives where (CMS vs Shopify).
✓
Channels
Which surfaces you sell on — web, app, POS, marketplaces — from one backend.
✓
Performance & SEO targets
Your PageSpeed goals and the URLs/rankings that must be preserved.
✓
Integrations
Search, reviews, subscriptions, personalization, analytics to wire in.
✓
Team capability
Who maintains the frontend after launch — so we build to your team’s stack.
Not sure headless is right? That is the first thing we tell you — honestly. If a fast custom Liquid theme would serve you better, we will say so before you spend on headless.
⚖️ Headless vs. Traditional Liquid Shopify
Understanding when headless is the right investment for your store.
Headless Shopify separates the frontend (what shoppers see) from the Shopify backend (commerce logic). Your storefront is built with a modern JavaScript framework like Next.js that fetches product, cart, and checkout data via Shopify's Storefront GraphQL API, while Shopify handles all payments, inventory, and order management.
Headless is worth it when you need exceptional performance beyond what Liquid allows, multi-channel commerce (web, mobile app, kiosk), deep custom UI that Liquid can't deliver, or strong editorial CMS requirements alongside commerce. For stores under $1M/year in revenue, a well-optimised Liquid theme typically delivers better ROI.
In standard Shopify, Liquid templates are rendered server-side by Shopify and served as HTML. In headless Shopify, Shopify becomes a pure commerce API backend. A separate frontend framework handles all rendering — this can be a Next.js site, a React Native app, or any other client — consuming data via the Storefront API.
Headless pricing depends on scope. Smaller front-end customizations start at $50, while more involved custom work — components, CMS integration, or checkout extensions — typically runs $200–$1,000. Larger full headless builds are quoted fixed-price after a free scoping call.
Stick with a standard Liquid theme if you want lower cost, faster launch, and the full Shopify admin experience - it is the right choice for most stores. Go headless when you need a custom front-end experience, best-in-class performance, content from multiple sources, or omnichannel delivery, and you have the budget and team to maintain a separate front end.
Headless Shopify costs more to build and maintain, takes longer to launch, and requires front-end developers on an ongoing basis. You also give up some plug-and-play theme apps and the live theme editor, since the storefront is a separate application. For many small and mid-size stores those trade-offs outweigh the benefits.
Not when it is built correctly. A headless storefront must implement server-side rendering or static generation, clean URLs, proper meta tags, structured data, and fast Core Web Vitals - all of which we handle. Done right, headless can actually improve SEO through superior performance; done carelessly, client-only rendering can hurt it.
We build headless storefronts on the Shopify Storefront API (GraphQL) with a modern front-end framework - typically Shopify Hydrogen or Next.js/React - deployed on a fast edge host such as Oxygen or Vercel. The stack is chosen around your performance goals, team skills, and integration needs.
Honestly, not every store needs it. If you run a smaller catalog with standard traffic, a simple frontend, and no multi-channel or heavy content needs, a well-optimized Liquid theme is usually the better investment — you skip the extra build and maintenance cost. Headless pays off when you need sub-second performance at scale, multiple storefronts or sales channels, a fully custom frontend, or a content-heavy setup with a separate CMS. We will tell you straight if your store is not there yet.
A typical headless build runs a few weeks depending on scope and integrations. You will not wait in the dark for it: you get a clickable staging preview within 5 business days and real, working frontend within the first week, then we follow our five-step process — architecture audit, API schema design, frontend build, integration & QA, and a staged launch with rollback.
For most stores, no. Those $25,000–$75,000 quotes are mostly agency overhead — account managers, sales and markups — not engineering. You get the same Plus / headless architecture built by a senior team at real rates: a fixed price agreed up front, a working preview before you pay, code you own outright, and no retainer you are locked into afterwards. Shopify’s Plus Partner badge is a sales tier, not a guarantee of better code.

📈 SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Technical SEO, on-page, schema, and architecture built to rank.
“Most outsourcers just drop your content into a template. They broke down our audience’s pain points first and built the page’s guarantee section around them. Clear pricing, no hidden monthly lock-ins, add-to-cart rose noticeably after the Shopify theme rework, and the ad-creative-to-landing-page match was spot-on.”
“Our self-built Shopify store had stubbornly low conversion. They designed the pain-point guarantee module specifically against competitors’ weak spots, fixed the landing-page expectation gap completely, and on the same ad budget CVR rose by nearly a third. Transparent pricing with no forced long-term retainer — a lot of freedom to work together.”
— Founder, outdoor-category DTC seller
“Unlike outsourcers who reuse a generic template, they re-organized our value messaging around our target customers. The pricing module is simple and clear with no hidden renewal traps, and after the site optimization our ROAS kept climbing — with no noticeable rise in traffic cost during scaling.”
— Growth Lead, mother & baby cross-border startup
